US Military Contractor's 90,000 Email Addresses Got Hacked
13 July 2011
As per media information, hackers have attacked a major US military contractor and stolen more than 90,000 email addresses and passwords.
'The Daily Telegraph' states that an arm of the online group Anonymous has said that it broke into the computer systems of Booz Allen Hamilton and then laid out the details on Internet. According to the report, they evidently were able to obtain encrypted version of the email passwords only, 53,000 of which carried the military ".mil" domains.
The hackers also took 4 GBs of Booz Allen source code in the attack named "Military Meltdown Monday". They said: "We infiltrated a server on their network that basically had no security measures in place."
Booz Allen delivers technological solutions such as cyber-security consulting to the American military and other US government agencies. Their team includes Michael McConnell, previous director of the National Security Agency.
US Defence Department representative states that, "We are aware of the incident and coordinating with our federal partners."
Booz Allen representative told that their security policy means "we generally do not comment on specific threats or actions taken against our systems". The hackers group said with a post: "You have a security policy? We never noticed."
Anonymous became famous last year to attack companies such as Amazon, Bank of America, Mastercard and Visa, which had cut off services to WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange.
