Twitter Application Registration Reaches One Million
13 July 2011
Monday, Twitter reported the number of applications recorded at the well-known microblogging service has exceeded a million.
Word of the milestone came as the San Francisco-based startup has introduced a new website at dev.twitter.com for software developers concerned in adapting fun, hip or functional programs for Twitter.
Twitter's blog commment says, "Application developers play a fundamental role in helping people get the best out of Twitter. Apps help people understand and make the most of Twitter."
Third-party applications created for Twitter range from games and photo posting applications to tools for mining trends or other details from the flood of terse text messages pulled out around the world each day.
A new Twitter application is recorded every 1.5 seconds, with the number of "apps" rising up from 150,000 a year ago, based on the startup.
Established in 2006, more than 200 million people are noticed to use the service to share news, thoughts, photos and more text messages of 140 characters or fewer.
A recent research done by the Pew Research Center suggests 13 percent of online US adults use Twitter, which is higher from eight percent in November 2010.
