02 June 2011
The networking giant, Cisco predicts world online traffic to quadruple by 2015 since the number of gadgets connected to Internet rises to 15 billion
According to Wednesday's fifth annual Visual Networking Index Forecast by Cisco, approximately 3 billion people, which means more than 40% of world population, are expected to use Internet until 2015.
The vice president of Cisco, Suraj Shetty says, "The explosive growth in Internet data traffic, especially video, creates an opportunity in the years ahead for optimizing and monetizing visual, virtual and mobile Internet experiences." PCs made 97% of Internet traffic from user year ago, but this share will fall by 87% in the coming 4 years since many people switch to smartphones, tablets, and Web-enabled TVs.
The video traffic online, in addition to data rich 3-D and HD transmissions, was estimated to be 14 time higher in 2015 against year-ago. Until then, a million minutes of video will pass the Internet each second, as stated in Cisco forecast. Mobile data traffic was predicted to raise by a rate of 26 times during the same period of time.
